Anna Livia

Éamonn O'Doherty, 1988

Located in Croppies' Acre Memorial Park, Dublin 7

A personification of the River Liffey, Anna Livia’s name is drawn from Joyce’s Finnegans Wake, and in turn from its Irish, “Abhainn na Life”. The fountain statue was commissioned for the Dublin Millennium celebrations in 1988, but lost its place on O’Connell Street in 2001 for the introduction of The Spire, and was eventually moved to Croppies’ Acre in 2011 after a decade in storage.
