About the Commissions
Sculpture Dublin is offering six commissioning opportunities – a permanent sculpture in each of the Dublin City Council Administrative Areas and a temporary sculpture commissioned for the O’Connell Plinth, an empty plinth outside City Hall on Dame Street.
Five of the six commissions are open competitions and artists are invited to propose ideas in response to the specific context of the selected site. Each commission brief includes contextual information relating to local and user communities, physical features and the history of the area. Two of the commissions are participative and will require local involvement in the creation of the work.
For the site overlooking North Bull Island in St Anne’s Park, a land art commission is planned. It will be an invited competition given the specialist nature of the art form.
An online survey inviting people to share what sculpture means to them, and to say how they would like to get involved with the programme is available to download in each commission section. All of the commissions will be embedded in local engagement programmes designed to stimulate conversations about sculpture and involve people in processes of making.
